People who enjoy ballooning will be encouraged to get more involved in the sport with this new book. By increasing your knowledge of ballooning, your level of enjoyment will rise the next time you go balloon-watching. You will learn about crewing which is another sport in itself that includes chase vehicle operations, proper use of support equipment, "back-roads" navigation and development of a sixth sense - knowing where to go before the pilot gets there. Crewing will ultimately lead to a flight opportunity.   Events leading up to the remarkable success of the around-the-world flight by Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones are also highlighted.

Written for young people, ages 4-8, Bellville provides a picturesque and informative introduction to hot air ballooning.  She shares her experience of flying in a balloon first hand, describes equipment assembly and touches on the history of ballooning - the oldest form of manned flight.  In the latter portion of the book she joins the chase crew to provide a perspective from the ground.  A glossary clearly explains the terms shown boldfaced in the text.
